The best of regional Victoria & southern NSW

Huon Creek Retreat is situated centrally within North East Victoria and Southern NSW, offering comfortable day trip experiences within a 100km driving radius. Within close proximity, 20-45 minutes drive you’ll find the historic tourist town of Beechworth, Albury Wodonga, access to the Murray River, national parks and the world-renowned Rutherglen Wine Region. 15 minutes drive further on opens up access to Wangaratta and the Milawa Gourmet Region, Glenrowan (Ned Kelly Country) and the King Valley wine region with its famous Prosecco Road. A little further afield ski and day visitation alpine areas including Falls Creek and Mount Buffalo can be visited. Popular across the entire district are the cycling activities that include the Murray to Mountains Rail Trail, mountain bike parks and road cycling peak-to-peak rides. All-in-all it’s an action-packed and extremely diverse region.

Historic Beechworth


Gold RuSH Heritage Village

Murray River Country


Follow the Flow, Grace & Beauty

One of the most impressive natural attractions within short driving distance to Huon Creek Retreat is the Murray River. While a visit to the Hume Dam East of Albury is a popular fishing and recreation area, some of the forested hidden sand beaches on both the Victorian and NSW side of the river provide outstanding natural day visitation locations. Perfect for a picnic or BBQ, expect to see a rich diversity of wildlife, including groups of pelicans dominating the waterline’s fallen branches. Mount Buffalo National Park


Island in the Sky

The air becomes cooler as the path drops into a small gorge known as Lady Bath Falls, carved by Eurobin Creek. Mount Buffalo towers are almost 1000 metres above. Exploring the Mount Buffalo National Park is one of regional Victoria’s premier highlights, and is achievable as a day trip from Huon Creek Retreat. Visit the new glass-bottom gorge walk viewing platform, the gardens surrounding the chalet or pack a picnic lunch and breath in the crisp mountain air as you enjoy local produce, collected from the farm gates below. For those with energy to burn, the mountain is an excellent location for rock climbing, abseiling, hiking, road cycling and skiing in the winter months. A moderate level hike to the top of The Horn elevates visitors to the mountain peak at 1723 metres. It reveals awe-inspiring 360-degree views of the Victorian Alps and glimpses of the NSW ski fields.

Falls Creek


See High Country

Well within reach of Huon Creek Retreat, it is possible to explore the spectacular Victorian alps via short-drive day trips. Discover hiking trails, snowgums, wildflowers, and historic mountain cattlemen’s huts in the warmer months. During winter, visit Falls Creek ski resorts (nearest to Huon Creek) for exhilarating downhill skiing and snowboarding, or check into town for snow play and a bite to eat at one of the village’s award-winning restaurants.
